CDMFA Spring Flag League
Mustangs Football (SWEMFA) is preparing for start of the 2024 Spring Flag Football Season.
This is a short season (April & May game play) that is open to ages 8 to 16 with practices starting indoors in mid March. With the game being played on a smaller field, with fewer players, each player's opportunity to touch the ball and be involved in the play is increased.
For 2024 we are taking registrations for the following age categories: The age categories align with Football Alberta and Football Canada to provide our athletes opportunity for potential provincial and national play
U10 - 5 vs 5 (ages 8 & 9/ born 2015 & 2016))
U12 - 5 vs 5 (ages 10 & 11/ born 2013 & 2014)
U14 - 5 vs 5 (option for 7 vs 7) (ages 12 & 13/ born 2011 & 2012))
U16 - 7 vs 7 (ages 14 & 15/ born 2009 & 2010))
All age divisions are non contact except U16 where limited contact is allowed at the line of scrimmage
The number and size of teams will be dependent upon the number of registrants and coaches. Final divisions will be established by CDMFA once number of players and teams for each division is finalized. Some age categories may be combined.
Opportunities for Athletes
- Players interested in football, but not tackle- Our highly experienced coaching staff will be teaching the fundamental skills of football related to passing, catching and running the ball as well as pass and run defense. Flag Football is a well recognized sport and in fact was just named as a demonstration sport for the 2028 Olympic Summer Games. Start on your path to a potential Olympic Medal.
- Players interested in Tackle but want to develop some skills before making the transition -Our program focuses on the development of fundamental athletic skills - speed, agility, body control and movement. These skills combined with football fundamentals, allow our athletes the ability to grow and learn in the safety of a non-contact environment.
- Tackle Players looking to enhance their skill sets -Flag football offers our tackle players an opportunity to focus on the continued development of their ball handling, body movement skills in a non-contact environment. It is a great off season training environment where players can enhance their skill sets and improve or maintain their fitness levels for the upcoming tackle football season.
