Teams: Spring Flag Program

Spring Non-Contact/Flag Program (co-ed)

Mustangs Football (SWEMFA) participates in the CDMFA Spring Flag Football League which is a short season (April & May game play). With the games being played on a smaller field and with fewer players on a team, each player's opportunity to touch the ball and be involved in the play is increased.

Opportunities for Athletes

  1. Players interested in football, but not tackle- Our highly experienced coaching staff will be teaching the fundamental skills of football related to passing, catching and running the ball as well as pass and run defense. Flag Football is a well recognized sport and in fact was just named as a demonstration sport for the 2028 Olympic Summer Games. Start on your path to a potential Olympic Medal.
  2. Players interested in Tackle but want to develop some skills before making the transition -Our program focuses on the development of fundamental athletic skills - speed, agility, body control and movement. These skills combined with football fundamentals, allow our athletes the ability to grow and learn in the safety of a non-contact environment.
  3. Tackle Players looking to enhance their skill sets -Flag football offers our tackle players an opportunity to focus on the continued development of their ball handling, body movement skills in a non-contact environment. It is a great off season training environment where players can enhance their skill sets and improve or maintain their fitness levels for the upcoming tackle football season.

Age Divisions

Mustangs Football offers co-ed play in the following age divisions: The age divisions align with Football Alberta and Football Canada to provide our athletes opportunity for potential provincial and national play

U10 - 5 vs 5

U12 - 5 vs 5

U14 - 5 vs 5

U16 - 5 vs 5 (please note there is no High School limitations for Flag as there are for Tackle Football. Players )

U18 - 5 vs 5 We offer limited registrations spots at U18 for alumni players that turn 16 and not eligible to register for U16. (Please contact the registrar@swemfa.com for more information)

All age divisions are non contact. As of 2025 all divisions format of play was revised to 5 vs 5 play to further align with provincial and national level requirements. Mustangs Football currently does not have teams at the U8 or U18 levels due to the lack of registrations at these age groups.

As this is a developmental league and there is no provincial playoffs, there is some flexibility to move players up or down an age division to best suit their growth and development. If you wish to discuss options for age division movement, please contact the registrar at registrar@swemfa.com.
